Living with Gaucher
Gaucher disease can affect patients and their families in many ways. In addition to its symptoms and mangement, being diagnosed with Gaucher disease may raise many different emotional and social challenges. For some it can be confusing and distressing. Most people have never heard of Gaucher disease, so there can be a fear of the unknown. Some patients may experience a huge sense of relief by finally getting a diagnosis for the symptoms they may have suffered for many years despite having visited many different doctors.
However you feel, support is available for patients and families from a range of sources. Around Australia, dedicated health care professionals, patient’s organisations, and other Gaucher disease patients and their families can offer their knowledge and support to the newly diagnosed and their family members. Go to Resources to find a host of helpful information and links to websites for support groups.
